Child Protection Program Initiative

Child neglect occurs when a child's basic needs such as food, clothing, education, healthcare, emotional support, lack of parental guidance and safe housing are not adequately met, leading to actual or potential harm. It is the most common form of child maltreatment, yet it often goes unnoticed due to its complex nature and the multiple contributing factors at individual, family, and community levels. Risk factors include disabilities, parental challenges such as limited knowledge of child development, unemployment, poverty, and lack of community support. However, positive relationships, strong parenting, and a supportive environment serve as protective factors against neglect.

MCF is committed to preventing child abuse and neglect before it happens. Through evidence-based programs and resources, we empower children, families, and communities to create safer environments where children can thrive. Violations of a child's right to protection remain widespread, under-recognized, and underreported, posing significant barriers to their survival and development. In contrast, effective child protection initiatives enhance physical and mental well-being, foster confidence and self-respect, and reduce the likelihood of future cycles of abuse and exploitation.

To address these critical issues, we implement the Empowerment and Social Accountability Program, designed to monitor, evaluate, and strengthen social protection initiatives at the community level. Through advocacy, education, and strategic interventions, we work to ensure every child grows up in a secure and nurturing environment, free from neglect and harm.
